500m+ Long-Distance Air-Supported Belt Conveyor for Yihai Kerry Subsidiary (Wilmar Group)
Key Highlights
Great Ocean Oils & Grains Industries Company, a subsidiary of Yihai Kerry (Wilmar Group), urgently needed to upgrade its bulk dispatch capacity for shipping soybean meal to Southwest China via dedicated freight trains.
GSS deployed a customized, integrated automated conveying system consisting of drag conveyors, bucket elevators, and a 500m+ long-distance air-supported belt conveyor to achieve seamless, continuous transfer from silos to railcars.
Enables continuous automated rail loading, improves train turnover efficiency, prevents dust and material loss with a fully enclosed design, and lowers operating and maintenance costs.
Client Profile: Great Ocean Oils & Grains Industries Compan-A Strategic Grain & Oil Logistics Hub in East China
Located in Guangxi, China, Great Ocean Oils & Grains Industries Company is a key production and logistics hub of Yihai Kerry (Wilmar Group). The company imports over one million tons of soybeans annually from Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay, processing them into edible oil and soybean meal for distribution across Southwest China.
Equipped with large-scale processing capacity and dedicated rail spurs, the company handles bulk rail shipments of finished products like soybean meal, serving as a vital logistics hub for the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.
Goals & Challenges: Multi-Vessel Flexibility & Dust-Free Efficiency Under Heavy Duty
As a key bulk grain unloading terminal along the Yangtze River, Yihai (Taizhou) faced several universal industry challenges during its wharf upgrading project:
- Multi-Vessel Compatibility Challenge: The terminal needed to accommodate both large ocean-going vessels (requiring high-capacity, heavy-duty continuous unloading) and smaller inland barges (requiring flexible, rapid unloading), which traditional single-mode conveying systems could not support.
- High-Capacity Continuous Transfer Bottleneck: Unloading ocean vessels demands a high throughput of up to 1200 t/h, requiring a reliable conveying chain from dockside unloaders to storage silos without clogging or operational interruptions under heavy duty.
- Environmental Protection & Grain Loss Control: Bulk soybeans produce significant dust during high-speed, long-distance unloading. Fully enclosed dust suppression and reduced grain breakage were strict environmental and operational requirements.
Customized Solution: Complete Conveying System for Dual Unloading Modes
Based on plant layout, material characteristics, and rail loading requirements, a customized one-stop bulk conveying solution was delivered to cover every stage: storage, distribution, elevation, long-distance transport, and rail loading:
- Drag Conveyors (5 units):Used for horizontal and inclined transport, achieving efficient distribution and multi-point transfer of material from silos.
- Bucket Elevators (2 units):Feature a fully sealed structure designed for granular and meal materials, delivering reliable vertical elevation.
- Long-Distance Air-Supported Belt Conveyors (2 units):Built for 500m+ transport distances, using air-cushion support for smooth operation, low energy consumption, reduced grain damage, and full dust suppression。
- Closed-Loop Process: Material flows from silos through drag conveyors, is elevated by bucket elevators, and is carried directly to rail loading points by air-supported conveyors, achieving seamless continuous loading into train cars.
Project Value: Triple Breakthroughs in Flexibility, Environmental Protection, and Operational Efficiency
Multi-Vessel Flexibility & Maximum Terminal Throughput:
The GSS complete system successfully solves the technical pain point of handling diverse ship sizes, maximizing berth utilization, accelerating unloading speeds, and significantly reducing vessel turnaround time.
Eco-Friendly Operation & Low Maintenance Efficiency
Deep integration of GSS zipper belt conveyors, enclosed drag conveyors, and bucket elevators suppresses dust emissions and material spillage, minimizing grain damage and equipment wear for green port operation.
Supply Chain Reliability & Stronger Logistics Hub Function
Reliable operation at 1200 t/h ensures uninterrupted raw material supply for Yihai (Taizhou) and accelerates grain transfer along the Yangtze River, providing robust equipment backing for regional grain supply chain security.
The terminal reconstruction project is crucial for securing our raw material supply and advancing river-sea grain logistics. The complete bulk conveying system provided by GSS, featuring zipper belt conveyors, perfectly accommodates different unloading setups for both ocean vessels and river barges. Its fully enclosed dust-free design and stable 1200 t/h throughput have exceeded our expectations, providing strong support for our modern, eco-friendly port logistics hub.
