Bulk Grain Conveying System | Yihai Kerry (Wilmar Group) East China Grain & Oil Base
GSS Fully Enclosed Bulk Grain Conveying Line for Yihai Kerry East China Grain & Oil Base

Key Highlights

Project Background

An East China grain & oil production base of Yihai Kerry (Wilmar Group) urgently needed to upgrade its unloading and transfer capacity to handle both large ocean-going vessels and smaller inland barges efficiently.

Core Solution

Deployed a complete GSS automated bulk grain conveying system, featuring 3 Enclosed Belt Conveyors (600 t/h & 1200 t/h), 9 high-capacity En-Masse Conveyors(800 t/h & 1200 t/h), and 5 GSS bucket elevators (800 t/h & 1200 t/h), forming a fully enclosed transfer link to storage silos.

Project Value

Solved the technical challenge of multi-vessel compatibility; achieved high-capacity unloading for ocean vessels and flexible handling for barges; ensured dust-free, eco-friendly operation and reduced grain loss.

Client Profile: A Strategic Grain & Oil Logistics Hub in East China

Located along the Yangtze River in East China, Yihai (Taizhou) is a strategic processing and logistics hub of Yihai Kerry (Wilmar Group). Operating dedicated bulk grain berths and shallow silo clusters, the terminal handles millions of tons of imported soybeans annually for river-sea intermodal logistics.

Goals & Challenges: Multi-Vessel Flexibility & Dust-Free Efficiency Under Heavy Duty

As a key bulk grain unloading terminal along the Yangtze River, Yihai (Taizhou)  faced several universal industry challenges during its wharf upgrading project:

  1. Multi-Vessel Unloading Compatibility:
The terminal required dual-mode unloading capabilities to seamlessly handle both 1,200 t/h ocean-going vessels and 600 t/h inland barges, which traditional single-loop systems could not support.
  2. 1,200 t/h High-Capacity Transfer Mainline:
Unloading ocean vessels demands an uninterrupted 1,200 t/h throughput from dockside continuous ship unloaders to storage silos without material clogging or operational downtime.
  3. Zero-Dust Environmental Protection & Low Kernel Damage:
High-speed soybean transfer generates airborne dust and potential grain cracking. The client required fully enclosed dust suppression compliant with Yangtze River ecological protection standards.

GSS Customized Solution: Complete Conveying System for Dual Unloading Modes

Matching terminal layout and vessel requirements, GSS delivered a customized bulk grain conveying solution to Yihai (Taizhou), featuring Enclosed Belt Conveyors, high-capacity En-Masse Conveyors, and bucket elevators to create two specialized unloading loops:

  • 600 t/h Auxiliary Loop for Inland Barges:
Installed 2 GSS Enclosed Belt Conveyors(ASBC1000 Series, 600 t/h, 200+ m length) paired with pneumatic unloaders for rapid, dust-tight barge discharge.
  • 1,200 t/h Heavy-Duty Loop for Ocean Vessels:
Configured 1 GSS high-capacity Enclosed Belt Conveyors ( 1200 t/h capacity, 180+m length) with continuous ship unloaders for deep-water vessel intake.
  • Interminal Drag Conveying & High-Rise Elevation:
Installed 9 GSS high-capacity Enclosed drag conveyors (800 t/h & 1200 t/h, up to 76.5m length) and 5 bucket elevators (800 t/h & 1200 t/h, up to 63.5m height) working in seamless sync to elevate and distribute soybeans across the silo cluster.

Triple Breakthroughs in Flexibility, Environmental Protection, and Operational Efficiency

Flexibility

Multi-Vessel & Maximum Throughput

The dual-mode architecture eliminates vessel waiting bottlenecks, decision-makers maximizing berth utilization and significantly cutting demurrage costs.

Eco-Friendly

Low Maintenance Efficiency

Deep integration of GSS zipper belt conveyors, enclosed drag conveyors, and bucket elevators suppresses dust emissions and material spillage while protecting kernel integrity, establishing a benchmark for Yangtze River green port operations.

Reliability

Stronger Logistics Hub Function

Reliable operation at 1200 t/h ensures uninterrupted raw material supply for Yihai (Taizhou) and accelerates grain transfer along the Yangtze River, providing robust equipment backing for regional grain supply chain security.

“
"The terminal reconstruction project is crucial for securing our raw material supply and advancing river-sea grain logistics. The complete bulk conveying system provided by GSS, featuring zipper belt conveyors, perfectly accommodates different unloading setups for both ocean vessels and river barges. Its fully enclosed dust-free design and stable 1200 t/h throughput have exceeded our expectations, providing strong support for our modern, eco-friendly port logistics hub."
